Why there are two rates
The Central Bank sells dollars to banks at 1,310 dinars. Most people cannot buy at that price, so exchange offices quote their own rate, 1,587.50 today, and that is the figure on this page. The gap between the two is the premium the street pays for dollars.
Where the rate moves
Boards are read every ten minutes through the trading day, and the time of the last reading is shown above. Erbil and Baghdad usually sit within a few hundred dinars per hundred dollars of each other; the city pages show each one.
Questions
Is this the rate I will get at an exchange office?
Close to it. Offices quote a buy and a sell a few hundred dinars apart per hundred dollars; the market figure here is the midpoint of fresh boards, and the buy and sell are shown separately above.
Why is it different from Google or XE?
They show the official rate of 1,310 dinars per dollar, which almost nobody in Iraq can transact at. This page shows what exchange offices actually quote.
How often is this page updated?
Every reading of the boards updates it, every ten minutes through the trading day. Outside trading hours it shows the last reading and its time.
